What is Teeth Whitening?
Opalescence Boost is a teeth-whitening gel applied right in our office to give you a brighter smile quickly, safely, and effectively! No hot or uncomfortable LED teeth whitening lights are necessary as it is chemically activated. The gel starts working as soon as it is placed on the teeth, meaning you’ll have a brighter smile with only two or three 20-minute treatments in a row, with noticeably whiter teeth in about an hour! No matter how well you brush your teeth, staining and discoloration of the teeth occur naturally over time — get your smile back with help from our team.
How to Whiten Teeth
There are many different methods to whiten teeth beyond practicing regular dental hygiene. These may include:
- Teeth whitening strips
- Teeth whitening kits
- DIY teeth whitening
- Natural teeth whitening methods
However, whitening teeth naturally or at home aren’t the most effective or safe teeth whitening methods. The best teeth whitening method is to go with a dental professional who knows what they are doing, like the team at Houston Orthodontic Specialists.
What to Expect From Opalescence Teeth Whitening
We recommend visiting your primary dentist for a regular checkup before visiting our office for a teeth whitening treatment, where you can ask your dentist if your teeth and gums are healthy enough for a professional whitening treatment. This routine checkup will also eliminate plaque and surface stains, creating a smooth surface that will make your whitening treatment more effective.
Once you’ve visited your dentist, you can schedule your teeth whitening service with us! You’ll come to our office and share some medical history, like existing health conditions or tooth implants. Then, we can begin your treatment.
The Teeth Whitening Process
-
1
We’ll begin by determining your tooth shade and placing a lip and cheek retractor to keep your tongue and lips clear of the whitening gel. Then, we will put a protective barrier around your gumline to prevent the gel from irritating your gums.
-
2
Once your gums, lips, and tongue are protected, we will use a gentle, brushed tip to apply the gel to your teeth. The gel will remain on your teeth for 20 minutes before being suctioned off.
-
3
Once suctioned off, we will evaluate the shade change of your teeth and determine if you need another application of whitening gel. In one treatment session, we can apply the gel up to three times.
-
4
Following the final application and teeth whitening gel removal, your orthodontist will safely remove the protective barrier and retractor, revealing your new, brighter smile!
How Much is Teeth Whitening?
On average, professional teeth whitening costs about $600. This cost includes the treatment process and the aftercare supplies provided. While insurance doesn’t typically cover this procedure, we offer several flexible payment plans that make the treatment accessible to all patients.
